The Subcarpathian Voivodeship is one of the most attractive regions of Poland, representing an ideal terrain for all types of tourism.
The variety of region's landscape is a crucial factor determining the beauty of its natural values: wild Bieszczady and Lower Beskidy mountains in the south, mild slopes of Pogorze and Roztocze in the central and north-eastern part, vast plains of the north and deep banks of rivers San, and Wisloka. The Bieszczady Mountains are undoubtely the most beautiful part of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. It is the remarkable place, very precious because of its natural, landscape and cultural values.
The Subcarpathian Voivodeship embraces terrains that used to be inhabited by the most rich and powerful Polish families, which had build many marvellous castles and mansions.
Royal castles, barons' palaces, old courts concealed among the ancient parks, and majestic ruins of the old edifices - all of these may be seen while travelling through the picturesque parts of the Subcarpathian. We begin our journey with visits in the two royal castles, medieval strongholds, that used to defend Przemysl and Sanok Lands.
The castle in Przemysl has been build around 1340 by the king Casimir the Great. Repetedly destroyed and renovated it had lost its gothic character.
The second of the royal castles may be seen in Sanok. Like the stronghold in Przemysl, it was build by Casimir the Great, and on account of renovation held in the XVIth century it gained its reneissance character. Nowadays, a historical Museum with the fabulous collection of over 700 icons, dating from the XVth to XIXth century is located there.
Baranow Sandomierski - one of the most beautiful castles in Poland, nicknamed a 'Little Wawel', build at the end of the XVIth century by the Brzesc voivode - Andrzej Leszczynski. A powerful, quadrilateral edifice, with cylindrical towers placed in the corners, hides in its interiors a courtyard, surrounded by renaissance cloisters.
